FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions for Physicians:

Can I customize the care that is provided to my patient(s)?
To answer in one word, YES. The patients who are typically referred to us do not reflect the “normal” pregnant patient population. Therefore, we are very much aware of the need for customizing care to fit the patient in question. Healthy Connections has only one caveat, as regards this, though. We must perform services for which we can seek reimbursement from the patient’s insurance company, as well as performing only those services that do not place the patient, physician, or unborn child at undue risk for serious adverse outcome. This is why patients for homecare services need to be carefully selected and screened.

For physicians who typically order several of our services on a regular basis, we are happy to customize these orders to fit your patient population needs. JUST ASK US!

What if I am not sure of the dosing on the various sub-cutaneous pumps for terbutaline or Reglan/Zofran?
We expect that many of our physician clients may not remember the dosing of medications that we provide. Therefore, the orders that we send will have typical dosing ranges for the therapies we provide. In addition, we have a pharmacist and board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist on our staff, who are happy to speak with you regarding dosing for your patient based upon their individual condition.

How often will the Nurses call me or my office?
Healthy Connections' goal is to provide care to the patient based upon a “best practices” philosophy as well as predicated on the physician’s discretionary orders. Therefore, we will make every effort to call the physician as little as possible. However, if patients require evaluation on Labor & Delivery based upon our homecare guidelines, or, an order change is necessary to provide better patient care, we will attempt to contact you/your office with as little disruption as possible.

How does using homecare services really benefit me or my office?
Healthy Connections believes that we offer an excellent value as well as providing a much needed service to our patients. We attempt to decrease your phone calls and eliminate the need to hospitalize some of your patients. This offers a great benefit to the compliant patient who would rather be at home with their families during this difficult time. The additional benefit is that our services decrease patient calls to your office. Perhaps one of the biggest benefits is the utilization of healthcare dollars. Homecare is far cheaper both for patients and for society than prolonged hospitalization. In addition, as we come ever closer to economic credentialing of physicians, these services demonstrate the physician’s economic sensitivity and financial prudence.

Can Healthy Connections perform DAILY NST’s on my patients?
NO. We believe that patients who require daily NST/fetal evaluation are likely not good candidates for homecare. The typical demands placed on our homecare nurses do not allow us to schedule them to see patients at exactly 10:00 AM (for example) every day of the week. Patients and their unborn babies that require this intensive a level of fetal monitoring are often ill-served by the homecare experience and may be placed in jeopardy if their needs are not immediately met through either delivery or substantial hospital-based intervention. Healthy Connections will provide NST up to TWO (2) times per week for our clients/patients, performed during the physician’s typical office hours so that we can have immediate interpretation of the fetal monitoring strip by the patient’s obstetrician.
